Sea, Land, Community

Welcome to SWIMRUN MONACO, a not-for-profit sports association rooted in the Principality of Monaco. We bring together people of all backgrounds to experience swimrun — a unique sport that blends open-water swimming and trail running in alternating segments, with no transitions and everything completed in the same gear.

Swimrun can be many things: a competitive challenge, an outdoor adventure, a way of discovering your surroundings, or simply a fun way to stay active. Whether you’re training for a race or looking to explore the coastline at your own pace, we believe both approaches are equally valuable — and we support them both. If you’re new to swimrun or curious to learn more about what it involves—both as a sport and as a way to explore—read on below.

Born in the Swedish archipelago and now practised worldwide, swimrun is about movement, curiosity, and connection — with nature, with others, and with yourself. Whether you're new to the sport or an experienced athlete, there's a place for you in our community.

Our Playground

From Monaco’s Port Hercule to the wild trails of Cap Ferrat and the hidden bays of the Italian Riviera, we are fortunate to train and explore along one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. With steep terrain, clear waters, and a mild climate, our region offers the perfect natural playground for swimrun — all year round.

What Is Swimrun?

Swimrun is an endurance adventure sport that combines open-water swimming with trail or road running, switching between the two several times — with at least two swims and two runs. You swim in your shoes, run in your wetsuit, and carry everything you need from start to finish. It’s traditionally done in teams of two connected by a tether, though solo participation is also increasingly common.

Swimrun as Competition

Swimrun is a sport with a growing calendar of races — from short local sprints to demanding, expedition-length events across wild and beautiful terrain. These challenges test your fitness, efficiency, navigation, mental resilience, and teamwork. Some compete to win; others to finish. But all share the thrill of moving fast and free through nature. ÖTILLÖ, where the sport began, remains a defining event in the international circuit.

Swimrun as Discovery

Beyond racing, swimrun is also a way of discovering the world around you — a practice of moving simply and self-sufficiently through land and sea. No timing chips, no pressure. Just immersion in your environment, connecting deeply with the coastline, and finding joy in the rhythm of your own movement. It’s exploration, not competition.

At Swimrun Monaco we embrace both sides of the sport. Whether you're training for your next race or seeking a more intimate connection with nature, the heart of swimrun remains the same: community, movement, respect, and a delighted awe for the world around us.
